2014 Memorial Day Laguna Hills Half Marathon

Laguna Hills is lining up Marines and Sailors to run in their 16th annual Memorial Day half-marathon, 5 and 10 K race, which is named for 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines.

This year, Memorial banners for the 25 Dark Horse Marines KIA during the 2010-11 deployment to Sangin, Afghanistan will be displayed on light standards along city streets on which the race is run.

This is a great way to burn some calories Memorial Day morning, while honoring your fallen brothers.

Come run with fellow Marines, Gold Star families and the citizens of Laguna Hills.

The first 50 Marines to register get their fees waived, and Team Dark Horse will pick up and deliver your bib and numbers to 3/5 Battalion CP on friday before the race, to save you time.

2014 US Police and Fire Championships

Letter from the High Power Director regarding the 2014 USPFC event:

Hello Ladies & Gentlemen,
This is the High Power Rifle Match Programs for the 2014 United States Police & Fire Championships which will be held on June 21 & 22 at MCB Camp Pendleton. I apologize this is coming so late, but I have been waiting for approval to send these out from the police federation.

Please be sure to read both programs completely as there are many changes in both programs. The XTC Match complements the Sniper Match this year and additional awards are available for both matches.

The XTC Match will be on Saturday June 21 and the Sniper Match will be on Sunday June 22, 2014.

The Highpower XTC match also includes a “Any Rifle” category so those who are planning on firing the Sniper Match may enter the XTC Match as well and get an additional day of zeros in addition to shooting this Match with their Sniper Rifle.

The XTC will also be an 800 Aggregate this year, instead of a “500 Aggregate”, so every category will be a “NEW RECORD” for the championships.

The Sniper Matches age divisions (18-50) & (51+) have eliminated, but there are more categories and additional divisions than in last years match. This means there are also additional medals to be earned than in last years match. The course of fire has also be altered to be more challenging with the addition of the 500 yard line and 500 yard line Movers.

I believe those who participate will be glad to shoot both matches! As a reminder: You must FIRST ENTER THE USPFC WEBSITE, Before you register at the SMGC Website (https://www.smgunclub.org/).

After reading the programs if you still have questions please don’t hesitate to e-mail me your questions. Please forward this e-mail to anyone you feel may also be interested in participating as well.

Senior Officer, Fountain Valley P.D.

The 2014 USPFC match programs are available on both the Match Forms page and a dedicated USPFC event page.

Letter from the SMGC President – 2014-04-02

Our Pistol Director Capt. Crystal Pearl,USMC is transfering out of the San Diego area and will have to step down from the Board of Directors.

Matt Kokoszka has stepped forward to replace her on the SMGC BoD for which we own him a hardy, thank you.

Crystal has been a tireless worker and advocate for the pistol program of our club for which we own a profound thank you. She will be sorely missed as she is also a great friend.

To which, I’d also like as many folks as possible to come out to her last Pistol Match on the 19th of this month as a way of showing our support and thanks, for the resumption of the Pistol Program which she made happen.

Thank you all for your support of our Marksmanship Programs.

Sincerely,

John Hermsen, President/CRSO

2014 February 01-02 Long Range Match Recap

The following is a recap/letter from Gary Fowler, SMGC Long Range Director:

Shooters,

Thank you all again for your participation this weekend.

We had a great weekend of shooting. R117A never ceases to amaze me, what a challenging and exciting range. Saturday we had 15 shooters participate. Once again Jerry McDonough took first for the conventional shooters with a 570-17x followed by Al Morita and Marcos Rojas. With no surprise Steve Blair took first for F-class with a 582-18x followed by Gary Fowler and Gary Eliseo. Super Bowl Sunday started with calm wind conditions that once again didn’t last long. James Wagner took first for the conventional shooters with a 569-18x. Mark Roth took first in F-class with a 549-5x followed by Mike StClair. Congrats to all! Thanks to everyone who helped setup and break down the range.

I look forward to seeing you all next month. Tell your friends, I will do my best to accommodate all types of shooters with all types of equipment. Please feel free to contact me if there are any questions or concerns

See you on the range,

Gary Fowler
