August 2014 XTC and Midrange results

Shooters,

I would like to thank everyone who came out to shoot with us for the August XTC and Midrange matches. The weather was a bit warm but otherwise we had very nice conditions for the matches on Range 116. I also want to thank those who hung in there Saturday morning while we were squaring things away with Range Control.  This can be a challenge sometimes but we are visitors in their house so sometimes we just have to grin and bear it as they validate that we have complied with all the range use requirements.

Congratulations to the Saturday XTC match winners, the scores were very close for the first three spots. Cpl. Jim Minturn took first place with a 750-14X. Bill Edwards was only one point off Jims pace and took second place with 749-13X. Third spot was wrapped up by Capt. Richard Martinez, he was only 3 X’s away from second place.

Sundays 3 X 600 Midrange match also had some close scores with first and second places being determined by X count. The Winner was sling shooter Randy Teissedre with 589-32X.  F Class shooter Steve Blair took second with 589-21X. Gary Atkinson, also shooting F class, grabbed third place with 585-22x.

This was my first time running the match by myself so I wanted to thank those who helped me out; John Hermsen for calling the line and all the other things he does, Dave Ellis for helping with range set up, Mark Bower for helping me get folks signed in Saturday morning, Van for covering the medic spot, and Gregg Materna for bringing me extra waiver forms and for his RSO duties.

I did want to remind everyone that we are guests of the Marine Corps and one thing we need to be mindful of is the condition we leave the range.  What I mean is we need to make sure we pick all of our trash and all of our brass.  Even if you don’t intend on reloading your brass must be picked up from the range.

The full results from both matches are posted on the match results page

Thanks,

Ken Letwin

Asst. HP Match Director

2014 August 02-03 Long Range Results

Shooters –

Thanks to everyone who attended the August Long Range match. Saturday the 2nd was quite challenging with the unusual weather conditions. Due to the rain out I have petitioned the NRA to change Saturday’s match format from 3×1000 to 2×1000. Bad weather or not congrats to Jerry McDonough for shooting his first clean! We experienced much better weather on Sunday the 3rd that resulted in the first F-class clean (that I have seen) at R117, Congrats to Steven Blair for the great shooting!

We will hold a practice day on R117 on September 6th and a 3×1000 approved match on September 7th. Please remember that registration will be open between 0700 and 0730 for both days. We hope to see you all at the range and thank you all for your support.

Best Regards,

Gary Fowler
Long Range Director

2014 June 28 and 29 Mid-Range Regional Results

The results for the 2014 June 28 and 29 Mid-Range NRA Regional have been posted on the Match Results page in PDF.

The SMGC wants to send a heartfelt “Thank You” to the recent members who have contributed donations to the purchase of the New Conex Box for the SMGC Pistol Program.

The recent donations have helped get the club back on our way to getting on our feet. We will need at least one additional work party to get the materials orgainized in the new conex box along with getting our targets used for the USPFC and June Regional MR Championship back to 103.

During this work party, we will need to get the new conex box completely squared away with the pistol items, and transfer the club’s targets back into the conex back at 103. Our “Thanks to all of those” who have helped out in either donations or in their personal efforts in getting things built along with the target preparation for our club’s matches.

We would not exist without these efforts from those folks, “THANK YOU” again and you all know who you are.
